Blingy Greetings,

Blingy 411: I am extremly excited to announce that I have a new member to the Bling Radio Show family! l was blessed to meet this beautiful soul when I went home for a speaking engagement in early March at my alma mater, Illinois Media School in Lombard, Illinois. She was the only one out of 45 students I spoke to that kept in contact with me. Kristina has so much talent and I am excited to have her on board as the Bling Radio Chicago Rep and my eyes for Chi-Town. Krissy J has her own radio show and she's an aspiring journalist who's just as driven and ambitious as I was when I was in broadcasting school. When I am unable to attend and cover major events in my hometown Chicago, Krissy J will be the face in the place! Get used hearing her name and seeing her face around there! Read her bio below to learn more about her journey in media. Welcome to the Bling Radio family Krissy J!

Krissy J, born Kristina Janelle, is an up & coming on air radio personality & journalist straight out of the Midwest. She was raised in Joliet, IL but now lives in the Chicagoland area. Communication & media has always been a passion for Krissy J. As a young girl she would use an old school tape recorder to voice over short stories for her family.
She attended Joliet public school and graduated from Joliet Township Central in 2007. In high school Krissy co-hosted the school’s SNN broadcasting station. She went on to study business administration at Colorado Technical Institute where she landed a job in marketing for the South Shore Drill Team in Chicago. While marketing brought Krissy experience in the industry she still felt she needed to do more.  After exploring career choices Krissy decided to study film & radio broadcasting at Illinois Media School where she found her niche in radio. Krissy J now hosts her own radio show (Krissy’s Corner) on Evolution Pop powered by Illinois Media School every Friday from 3-4pm. Radio is life & Krissy J has finally found her place in the industry!
Krissy began writing as a journalist for Coffea Magazine, an entrepreneur lifestyle magazine, based out of Chicago in 2019. Some of Krissy’s interests include shopping, cooking, spending time with family, & dishing the tea on celebrities. In all-new, one-hour episodes, viewers will meet the King family and catch up with the Andersons from last season to find out if each family will find the strength to support each other or become their biggest enablers. Beginning December 21, fans can watch an early premiere of new episodes from My 600-lb Life and Family by the Ton by downloading the TLC GO app or visiting TLC.com/My600lbLife and TLC.com/FamilyByTheTon.

MY 600-LB LIFE
The emotional fan favorite series MY 600-LB LIFE returns to TLC for its seventh season on Wednesday, January 2 at 8/7c, following people who are struggling to escape the prison that their own bodies have become. Viewers will see first-hand their hardships with addiction, dependence and the inevitable impact their condition has on their closest relationships. Each episode will give viewers an inside look at the most extreme emotional and physical journeys to life-saving surgery with Dr. Nowzaradan, and their continued incredible progress thereafter, living the lives they had hoped for.
This season will follow 20 new incredible journeys including a transgender woman who longs to live a glamorous life but struggles to get through every day basics, a couple who met online and are dealing with morbid obesity together and a woman whose family’s lack of proper hygiene – and the fact that they live with 11 dogs – has exacerbated her own health.

FAMILY BY THE TON

The Anderson family is back and continuing their incredible weight loss journey with the guidance of Dr. Procter, but first viewers will meet a new family facing the life and death consequences of morbid obesity and turning to the good doctor for help. Out of the four members of the King family, Casey is the largest, weighing in at over 700-lbs. Casey spends most of his time eating mountains of food in his bedroom while playing video games for hours on end, enabled by his dad who will do anything to keep him happy. Casey’s cousin Ed is a father of two, but his weight of 450-lbs is dangerously life-threatening and must be managed for the sake of his daughters. Meanwhile, cousin Amy might weigh the least in the family at almost 400 pounds, but she sees a future of struggle and limitations that she doesn’t want to accept. And while everyone faces a weight that is life or death, it is far more precarious for Amanda. With a diagnosis of endometrial cancer, Amanda is untreatable as long as she continues to weigh 650-lbs and must lose half her body weight if she ever hopes to have her cancer surgically removed. All four cousins make a pact that they will go on a weight loss journey together and fight the family legacy of obesity threatening their lives.

In the second half of the season, viewers will once again follow the Anderson family and see where Drew, Naomi and Chitoka are after their weight-loss surgeries. Unfortunately, they begin to discover that surgery is not a solution on its own, and that a healthy lifestyle with diet and exercise are crucial. As time passes, the challenge of continuing to lose weight and stay on track grows. Although she sees their progress begin to waiver, their 650-lb cousin Shavonne is now desperate for a change and decides to follow in the family’s footsteps, seeking approval for weight-loss surgery. In time, Shavonne learns that she needs to find motivation within herself and in doing so, will hopefully be able to motivate her cousins to follow through in their weight-loss journey together as a family.

Blingy Greetings,

It's been a while since I wrote a blingy blog. There's a reason for my unblingy absence I swear. Soon I can talk about how wonderfully insane 2018 has been for me. A lot of life-changing experiences has happened and are happening to me. I am going to fill you in on a few things to get you caught up with my blingy excursions over the last eight months.

I relocated to Downtown Atlanta from Riverdale, GA in April. Where I moved to is one of the busiest areas in ATL. It's so much to do, and it reminds me of the city life in Chicago. It's been so much going on that I haven't had a chance to engage in the downtown living experience entirely. I can say there is always something going on here. Some of the places I've been I just wanted to enjoy those moments by myself. I do have pics I can share on a few places to go and things to do. In Chicago, I was the tour guide for people who would come in town to visit. Now I am the tour guide of Atlanta for people who come to see me. I love it because I'm experiencing new places to go with my guests as well as taking them to see attractions I already visit myself.

Get ready for a blingtastic joyride! I've started to move around the city of Atlanta with my baby, Bling Radio. As I cover events I will post all media here to keep you updated on the who's who in entertainment, business, fitness, lifestyle and fashion!

Tomorrow night (Wednesday) at 10/9c on TLC’s FAMILY BY THE TON, Naomi has been on her liquid diet for two weeks and it has been the hardest thing she has ever done. After almost giving in to stress and quitting, she decided to stick with it. Now it's time for her to finally learn if she has lost twenty pounds and can have the weight loss surgery. Drew is also on his diet but, after a successful first weigh-in, decides that maybe he doesn't have to stick to the liquid diet as closely as the doctors say. Then, after the sudden death of a loved one, Chitoka does some serious soul-searching when her weight causes her to be unable to attend the funeral. She decides she can no longer live life trapped on her bed. Chitoka works with a physical trainer and challenges herself to walk to her living room. After much pain and struggle, will she be able to walk again?

We will be watching the show live at 10e/9c on TLC!

View the video below to find out why Naomi is having second thoughts about the surgery.....

Tomorrow at 10/9c, TLC premieres brand-new series FAMILY BY THE TON. Matriarch "Mama" Beverly's family is just like any other family, except they are all morbidly obese. Her daughter Naomi weighs in at nearly 400 pounds, and her weight has kept her from moving forward with life, especially as she considers starting a family of her own. Then, Naomi's cousin Chitoka has been bedbound for years. She cooks, eats, bathes and does all day-to-day activities while barely moving from one spot. Realizing her bed has become a prison, Chitoka is in dire need of a change. Finally, cousin Drew is dangerously obese and now finds it painful to move around. As the sole caretaker for his elderly mother, he realizes if something were to happen to him, she would have no one to care for her. In order to inspire the rest of the family to turn their lives around and get healthy, Mama Beverly undergoes gastric bypass surgery, but complications strike fear into the family. All three cousins must come to terms with what that means to their own weight loss plans... before it's too late.

Blingy 411: Actress T'Keyah Crystal Keymah to Serve as Artist in Residence at FAMU

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 4, 2017

Actress T’Keyah Crystal Keymáh to Serve as Artist-in-Residence at FAMU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – This fall, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) theatre students will have the unique opportunity to train with one of the institution’s most accomplished alumni in Hollywood.

T’Keyah Crystal Keymáh, internationally acclaimed and award-winning performer, director, writer and producer, will become FAMU’s first W.K. Kellogg Foundation Artist-in-Residence in the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities (CSSAH) theatre program.
Keymáh, who has returned to the University on several occasions and is also the namesake of an endowed scholarship, views the position as an opportunity to pay it forward.

“I can’t miss this opportunity,” she said. “I can’t forget what it’s like being on the other side. I can’t forget being that student wishing that somebody I knew from television or film would come and visit me. I come back and perform because I loved when people came to my school and performed,” Keymáh said.

After first gaining national fame as a regular cast member on the comedy show “In Living Color,” Keymáh also gained notoriety for her role as Erica Lucas on the CBS sitcom “Cosby” and as Tanya Baxter on the Disney Channel sitcom “That’s So Raven.” She recently completed the first season of her newest series, “There's Johnny,” a comedy produced for NBC's digital platform, Seeso, in which she plays Johnny Carson's secretary Roz.

Keymáh earned a bachelor’s degree in theatre from FAMU in 1984 and received an honorary doctorate from FAMU in 2011. She wants to share the wisdom she has gained over the years with her students.

“I intend to bring my experience as a series regular on six on-camera series to the classroom, in addition to what I learned on and off the set,” Keymáh said.

Valencia Matthews, Ph.D., CSSAH dean, believes having Keymáh as the theatre program's first Artist-in-Residence is significant and underscores her willingness to give back to the program and the University in general.

“The fact that T’Keyah loves and supports FAMU and the Essential Theatre has been demonstrated consistently, and in many ways, over the past 30 years.  She inspires loyalty, so it was an easy decision to select her as the first Kellogg Artist-in-Residence for the Essential Theatre,” Matthews said.

Matthews believes having Keymáh on campus for an extended period and the overall Artist-in-Residence program will leave a meaningful and lasting impression on FAMU students.

“It is an exciting opportunity to have an individual of T’Keyah’s prestige to share her professional experiences with our students. It also leaves a lasting impression for them to see our alums return to the very place where their training began. We look forward to having her as an addition to our theatre faculty for the next several months,” Matthews said.

In addition to teaching an acting for the camera class, Keymáh will also conduct three workshops and will direct “The Nacirema Society” by Pearl Cleage, which will be the first play in the Essential Theatre’s 2017-2018 season.

Ultimately, Keymáh said she believes historically Black colleges and universities should be at the forefront of what Black theatre is, and she hopes to help raise the bar during her time as an instructor.

“As people of color in an industry where people of color are horrendously underrepresented, we have to be the standard-bearers,” she said.

Future plans for the Kellogg Artist-in-Residence Program include an annual rotation between the theatre and music programs respectively.

"Next year the music department will have the opportunity to select an artist of its choice to enhance programming in that area,” Matthews said.

Funding from the Kellogg Foundation plays a critical role in FAMU’s performing arts programs. In 1993, a grant from the foundation attracted top-notch theatre faculty and staff such as Matthews, Luther D. Wells and Carey B. Robinson. It also led to the establishment of an Eminent Scholar Chair and now Artist-in-Residence Program to be shared between theatre and music.

The program provides the opportunity for the Essential Theatre and Department of Music to foster intellectual, creative and professional growth among artists, students, faculty and staff.
